Incorporating self-compassion into your fitness journey

It’s crucial to set smart goals and put in the effort to reach them.

But… don’t push yourself so hard that you beat yourself up over every mistake. Remember to include self-compassion and resilience in your fitness routine while still holding yourself accountable.

There’s a thin line between motivating yourself when necessary and needlessly criticizing yourself.

Think of it like the difference between a polite request and a forceful demand, even though they might seem similar at times.

Finding balance is key, and it might take time and self-reflection to consistently find yours.

And that’s alright. It’s more than alright; it’s part of the journey!

So, yes, make plans – and understand that you might not always execute them perfectly. Here are some things to consider:

  • When you stumble, learn from it, make adjustments to avoid repeating it, and then forgive yourself and move forward.
  • Keep track of your efforts, progress, emotions, and mindset. Refer back to them when needed.
  • Keep the big picture in mind. Consistency over time is what leads to success.
  • Seek advice from a coach or mentor for a different perspective.
  • Be your own cheerleader, just as you would be for a friend.
  • But don’t lose sight of your goal, however you define it.

Again, it’s all about finding balance over time.

So reflect on my suggested considerations and take them out into your world.

Intend for deeper levels of clarity and allow yourself space to be an observer to what comes up.

The key message here is this: Your fitness journey is indeed a journey. It’s not defined by a single event, setback, or disappointment. And you have the power to turn anything negative into something positive or find a lesson in every experience.

It’s all within your control – your mindset, your emotions, and ultimately, your success.
