Life has this uncanny ability to unfold in unexpected ways, doesn’t it?

What Series Of Events Led Me To This Moment?​

For me, it was a journey that took place in my 30s marked by unforeseen health challenges that shaped my path in unimaginable ways.

It all began with a visit to the ER. A painful migraine, vomiting, and dizziness – an alarming trifecta that sparked a cascade of tests, leading to the discovery.

During that fateful phone call, my heart plummeted and at the same time I felt like I was in a tunnel moving backwards… a large mass the size of a man’s fist discovered in my brain cavity.

What series of events led me to this moment?

For me, it was a journey that took place in my 30s marked by unforeseen health challenges that shaped my path in unimaginable ways.

Face to face with mortality can stir up a whirlwind of emotions

I remember feeling the weight of fear and uncertainty, scared of leaving this world with dreams unfulfilled – like excelling in my career, finding my soulmate, experiencing the joys of parenthood, exploring the world, and growing old gracefully.

In that moment, I made a pact with myself – a promise that if I made it through the 11+ hour brain surgery, I wouldn’t waste another moment. I’d seize every opportunity to fulfill my purpose in this world.

A new reality

The aftermath of the surgery left me grappling with profound physical changes—facial paralysis and permanent loss of hearing on the right side. 

I taught myself the basics all over again, from yawning and breathing so I don’t cough and choke, to speaking slowly with a paralyzed tongue … the list goes on… 

But the emotional toll was equally daunting. 

Anger, guilt, depression, fear and anxiety became my unwelcome companions, as I struggled to find my footing in a world that suddenly seemed unfamiliar. 

Self-isolation became my norm, and the reflection in the mirror was a constant reminder of the stranger staring back at me. 

All I wanted was to reclaim a sense of normalcy, to turn back the clock and undo the changes that had altered my life forever. 

Yet, acceptance didn’t come easy – it took years of soul-searching, self-discovery, and many attempts to find peace with the new reality.

And during this challenging time, I turned to healing, becoming a competitive bodybuilder in bikini and figure along the way. It was my way of breaking free from self-isolation, and it led me to a fantastic community of supportive friends.

Eventually, this journey resulted in me becoming a personal trainer and nutritionist, helping others navigate their own paths to wellness.

Life decided to throw another curveball a few years later.

And with it came its own set of life-altering challenges.

The accident didn’t just take a toll on my physical health – it stole something deeply intrinsic; I permanently lost my sense of taste and smell.

Losing these senses, much like my deafness, isn’t just an absence – it’s a profound shift in perception.

As a nutritionist and curious cook, I reveled in the art of mixing ingredients, experimenting with flavors and textures. But now, flavor profiles morphed, often for the worse. Foods once delicious now felt like a lump of wetness in my mouth.

And the loss extended beyond the kitchen. 

It was about missing out on the little things, like the comforting scent of rain on earth or the smell of sunshine on laundry hanging out to dry.

The world felt muted, devoid of the simple pleasures that once brought me joy. Even the smell of a loved one’s embrace or a pet’s snuggle became a distant memory, a ghost of what it used to be. 

Navigating through this storm

It wasn’t easy – I grappled with anger, guilt, and the relentless pursuit of normalcy. 

But amidst the chaos, a profound visceral realization and clarity emerged: we are more than our challenges. 

Each hurdle, misstep, and triumph underscores the indomitable spirit within us—the innate power to rise, rediscover, and thrive.

Reflecting on my journey, I recognize the pivotal role of choice—every decision, every action, shaping the trajectory of my life.
