Sometimes life throws something at you that can either make you or break you.
This very thing happened to me 6 years ago with the discovery of a brain tumor which after partial removal resulted in permanent facial paralysis on 1 side.
I felt as though my life was over at that point ?
It seems excessive, after all, it’s ONLY your face. But then again, it IS your face.
And in our current social climate where millions define their beauty and worth through social media ? this could be the thing that breaks them
I think anyone with a limiting condition (whether in the body, mind or spirit) can agree on how severe depression, loneliness, self-inflicted isolation, self-hate speech, and low self-esteem can be ?
I wanted to avoid any social setting that may bring stares or looks of pity. And I let go of things I love ? – fitness, being outside, a social life.
But I knew deep down that something had to change. B/C I was miserable ❌
I took baby steps and had a mantra – ? Just do You Today and make it a little better than yesterday.
I started going back to the gym. 5am at first when no one was around and I can avoid others’ ?
I regained my strength ?️, saw improvements with my balance – which my neurologist claimed is gone now that I’m deaf ? on one side- my flexibility improved with hours of yoga ?♀️ and abs that were a pipe dream started peeking out.
Importantly I was regaining confidence in myself ? And I was no longer afraid of being in public or going on dates.
I took it a step further and moved to Hawaii ? I started competing and won my bodybuilding competitions?which boosted my self-confidence. If I can do all this and win, then I’m doing pretty alright ?
What I’m learning in this journey is that my negative thoughts and circumstance must not dictate my life. Not if I want to have the life I want ❤
➡ So, I challenge you today to tap into those negative feelings you’re experiencing in any area of life. What call to action are they giving you?
And if you used fitness to overcome your challenge, I’d love to hear your story ?
